Improvised Actions | Sensory Installation | Micro-Culinary Performance

KITCHEN is a performance work by GAO Ling—about everything related to cooking, exploring the sonic and performative potential of everyday culinary actions. In this experimental dinner performance, routine gestures such as cutting, washing, sprinkling, and stirring are transformed into a dynamic auditory and visual experience, centered around the kitchen space.

GAO was invited by curator Lian Ladia to present KITCHEN at the Fall Invitational fundraising event on September 6, 2025, at 500 Capp Street. She collaborates with sound artists Jorge Bachman and artist Dan Ake to create the work’s rich kitchen soundscape. Artist @michael_zheng.art joins as a special guest, performing the “sawing bread” segment, adding humor and rhythm to the piece.
